ASB has been obsessed with green lately.
The Green Fund Advisory Board has reviewed all proposals as to how the fund should be spent. Around 15 proposals were submitted to the board, which is still voting on them. The board must have the final decision by the end of the semester, and the projects will begin by the end of summer.
Some of the proposals under consideration include installing Dyson hand dryers, improving the community garden, replacing dorm lighting with automatic lighting and creating bike stations on campus.
ASB representative John Penner, who wrote the green fund bill and who also serves on the board, stressed that the goal is to select projects that are very visible. That way students can see the benefit from the fund immediately, he said.
ASB has also donated $10,000 for the Student Research Endowment. The donation fulfilled the $20,000 needed for endowment. Dispersal of the funds will begin in the next several years.
The endowment began three years ago when former representative Jeff Nelson wrote a bill that would provide funding for student-led research. Now that the required amount of money has been given, ASB will partner with other departments on campus to determine criteria for the allocation of the funds. This means funds are not available for current students to apply for immediately.
“With the hopes of well-funded research, PLNU students will be better prepared for programs and careers post-college,” an ASB press release stated.
If you are really obsessed with green focus on the community garden. It is the thing that once you get people involved in will always stay in the memory. I got involved with gardens when I was a kid at school. I still love gardens…
